Alkali-metal/sulfur batteries hold great promise for offering relatively high energy density compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries. By providing viable sulfur composites that can be effectively used, carbonaceous hosts as a key component play critical roles in overcoming the preliminary challenges associated with the insulating sulfur and its relatively soluble polysulfides. Herein, a comprehensive overview and recent progress on carbonaceous hosts for advanced next-generation alkali-metal/sulfur batteries are presented. In order to encapsulate the highly active sulfur mass and fully limit polysulfide dissolution, strategies for tailoring the design and synthesis of carbonaceous hosts are summarized in this work. The sticking points that remain for sulfur cathodes in current alkali-metal/sulfur systems and the future remedies that can be provided by carbonaceous hosts are also indicated, which can lead to long cycling lifetimes and highly reversible capacities under repeated sulfur reduction reactions in alkali-metal/sulfur during cycling.Polyoxometalates (POMs), molecular metal oxide anions, are inorganic clusters with promising antiviral activity. Herein we report increased anti-HIV-1 activity of a POM when electrostatically combined with organic counter-cations. To this end, Keggin-type cerium tungstate POMs have been combined with organic methyl-caffeinium (Caf) cations, and their cytotoxicity, antiviral activity and mode of action have been studied. The novel compound, Caf4 K[β2 -CeSiW11 O39 ]×H2 O, exhibits sub-nanomolar antiviral activity and inhibits HIV-1 infectivity by acting on an early step of the viral infection cycle. This work demonstrates that combination of POM anions and organic bioactive cations can be a powerful new strategy to increase antiviral activity of these inorganic compounds.Herein, we investigate a novel set of polarizing agents-mixed-valence compounds-by theoretical and experimental methods and demonstrate their performance in high-field dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) NMR experiments in the solid state. Consequently, such polarizing agents can be used to perform Overhauser-DNP experiments in the solid state, with favorable conditions for dynamic nuclear polarization formation at ultra-high magnetic fields.The nutritional quality of foods consumed by infants and young children to complement breastfeeding or formula feeding influences growth and development. The aim of this study was to identify the dietary intake of Indigenous infants and young children in the Gomeroi gaaynggal cohort, and evaluate the nutritional adequacy of their intake compared with Australian recommendations.
Dietary intake was assessed using diet recalls at approximately 9-, 12- and 24-month visits. Nutrient values of foods were obtained from AUSNUT 2011-13 and nutrient intake compared to the Australian Nutrient Reference Values. Foods were categorised into food groups and intakes compared to the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating.
A total of 206 infants and young children were included in the study. Of these, 95 individual children had dietary data collected between 7.6 and 24.7months. Infant formula and breastfeeding rates were highest among infants (70% and 20%, respectively). Cow's milk intake was highest among young children (75%). Infants and young children in the cohort met most macro- and micronutrient intake recommendations. Few young children met recommendation for iron (42%), no infant met recommendation for omega-3 fatty acids and almost all exceeded recommendation for sodium. Most young children met daily dairy and fruit recommendations although intake of discretionary foods was high.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies that investigated the reported association between lactation (irrespective of duration, intensity or mode) and maternal risk of type 2 diabetes was conducted.
A total of 22 studies (17 cohort studies and five cross-sectional studies) were included in this systematic review, and 16 contributed to the meta-analysis. Studies that investigated the association of lactation with risk of type 2 diabetes in the first months after birth in women with gestational diabetes reported conflicting results. Studies with a longer follow-up showed a graded protective association for lactation and the risk of type 2 diabetes, with a potentially larger risk reduction in women with gestational diabetes than in those without gestational diabetes. Overall, ever versus never lactation was associated with a 27% lower risk of type 2 diabetes (RR 0.73, 95% CI [0.65, 0.83]). Each additional month of lactation was associated with a 1% lower risk of type 2 diabetes (RR 0.99, 95% CI [0.98, 0.99]). However, the overall quality of the studies was modest.
Lactation is associated with a significantly reduced risk of maternal type 2 diabetes over the life course, particularly in women with gestational diabetes. The protective effect seems to increase with longer duration of lactation. Further research is warranted to understand whether this association is modified by exposure to other risk factors.
